I spent much of summer compiling a mental list of do’s and dont’s when it comes to abroad blogging. I am not going to write this list (that would fall under the “dont’s”), but I can tell you what you can expect from this blog.
Probably most all of my friends are going to have blogs. Perhaps many of them will consist of posts that tell you what they have done that day or that week. They will walk you through everything in narrative form. I am not going to do that. I have neither the patience nor the skill to do that. Rather, for my entries, I am just going to describe one “thing.” I put “thing” in quotes because it can refer to a place, one anecdote, one person, one book. Essentially, “thing” means noun, which is sort of dumb–I recognize (this wandering prose is exactly the sort I’ll try to stay away from in the future).
Anyway. I am going to pick one thing and describe it in full. I’ve decided that I would be better suited for writing those sorts of entries. If you want to read everything that happens to a person, there will be a billion blogs to choose from (I hope you do read others, I’m sure they will be great). If you want a fuller picture of specific things, I may be able to help. Of course, I am allowed to deviate from this, but this concept is the target at which I am aiming. This doesn’t mean that I won’t ever include an especially zany anecdote.
I will also do my best to include some pictures here. Mind you, I say this dubiously because I do not pretend to know how to take a good picture. I will spare you from my photography when I have words for something.
This format of sorts was thought of for (in addition to myself) those of you who are reading multiple blogs. It may break up the monotony of blog reading. Of course, my friends by no means write monotonous blogs; they will just necessarily be repetitive.
Thank you for reading.
Your friend,
Travis
